Recognizing the contagious nature of conflict led to the establishment of the West Africa Network for Peacebuilding (WANEP–The Gambia), a legally registered non-profit organization established in August 2003. The organization comprises 30 network member organizations across the country, working in diverse areas such as peacebuilding, conflict resolution, human rights, governance and development. With focal points in all five regions, WANEP–The Gambia coordinates and directly implements programs and activities at national, regional and community levels. Its presence and relevance are reinforced by the growing need for proactive conflict prevention and peacebuilding initiatives as foundations for sustainable peace and development. Today, WANEP–The Gambia stands as a leading and nationally recognized peacebuilding institution in The Gambia, dedicated to promoting a culture of peace anchored in human rights, democracy, and good governance, guided by the conviction that sustainable peace is the cornerstone of justice, democratic governance, and long-term national development.
